Advance Warning for Events

As an example, I have a report that is due on October
15th and I want to be notified one week before the due
date.

As a test, I scheduled an October 7th deadline. I used
the reminder and asked to be notified in one day.

I tried using the reminder, but I always receive this
message:
The reminder will not appear because the item is not in
your calendar or tasks folder.

Suggestions?

As the warning states only items in certain default folders fire off the
Reminder Service options are to have the item in the default folder or use a
third party add-in, for the add-in check here http://www.slovaktech.com/
