Someone recently showed me how they click and drag email items into their
calendar to show time to work on that email, but I was unable to see how they
had email and calenday on the screen at the same time. Can anyone help me?

Right click the calendar folder and select the option to open in new window.
Resize your current ones (or use Windows tiling) to display side by side.
