I want to find out when a calendar entry was made, i.e. one day before the
planned appointment, one day afterwards? Is there anyway of finding that out?

Add the "Created" field to a view like "Active Appointments" or other list
type view of the Calendar folder. Right click on the field name header and
choose "Field Chooser". Drag Created to the view.
