Removing a stubborn recurring task

I've been trying to remove a stubborn recurring task/event (actually an
all-day event).
However, when I open the task and go to the recurrence box, the recurrence
appears, but the "remove recurrence" button is greyed out. The problem is the
the task was originally set with no end date, so the alternative would be to
delete it manually for perpetuity!

Help.

Go to one of the occurances
Right click it
Delete.
An option will come up "Delete all occurances or Delete this one"
Click Delete all occurances
