I would like to update an Excel file on a daily basis.  I thought it would be
a good idea to create a link to the file in an outlook appointment and make
it a recrruring appointment, that way each day I woudl be reminded to update
the file.  Problem is, when I click the link, it opens the file
(excelfile(6).xls) with a number after it.  It is not opening the file I
originally put into my appointment (which lives in My Docs but a copy of it
that lives in the OLK2B86 folder.

If you can tell me how to make this stop happening, terrific.  If not, maybe
there is a better solution you could think of to make sure I update the file
at least once daily.

Thanks!

Are you using a shortcut or the actual file? If the actual file, are you
opening it from the preview or opened appointment? Finally, try this method:
http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2005/20050105.htm - it should open the
original file.

Diane,
Thank you for your response.  I am using the actual file.  Would a shortcut
be a better option?  Why?   I am opening it from an opened appointment.

I tried the method you suggested and it seemed to work.  I dont know much
about Windows Media Services so I am a little hesitant but if that is the
only solution, okay!

When you use the actual file, how you open the attachment makes a difference
in whether you are using a copy or the original and how you close the items
makes a difference in if the changes save to the attachment. Using the media
player option and keeping a copy of the file on the hard drive is better to
insure the changes were saved.

saving changes

Thank you.  Can you point me in a direction to learn more about online
meetings and the media player option?

AFAIK, there is no information about the media player option - it's actually
intended for 'live meetings' and opening a file locally is just a hack
someone thought to try.

I.e., if someone sends you request for an online meeting, you can enter the
url and the proper program opens automatically, saving you a few clicks.

This is why they pay you the big bucks.  Thanks for your help!

I wish :) We're all volunteers, helping other users learn how to use the
program we all love (and hate :)).
