Tip: Looking for answers? Try searching our database.

Have you created a resource (i.e. conference room) in outlook?

Rather than searching calendar's in a public folder, I want my IT Department
to create our conference rooms as accounts that can be included in a meeting
request.  This will allow a Busy Search to be completed so that the
availability of this "resource" can be determined when scheduling a meeting.

I came from an environment where this was done with GroupWise.  Can this be
replicated in Outlook?

Yes, Outlook does it with Exchange mailboxes. See http://www.slipstick.com/calendar/skedresource.htm

Thank you for the information.  My IT guy has looked at the source you
provided, but has the following unresolved issues and that's why we haven't
implemented it, do you have a workaround that will help?

That calendar would be a private calendar, and I believe not universally
viewable, like a Public Folder, though it would have the Free/Busy time
available when sending out Meeting Requests.

Conversely, you can have mail-enabled Public Folders, but not the integrated
suite of folders, including a calendar, which a private mailbox has. If
anyone knows different than this, let me know.

With this caveat, it becomes simply a question of which set of features are
most important to the main users.

You can set permissions on mailbox folders, just as you can public folders. As the article says, for a resource that you want people to be able to book directly, you'd grant them the Author role on the mailbox Calendar folder.
