How to schedule a meeting without sending an invitation

In Outlook 2007 beta, I'd like to link meetings with contacts.  But the only
way I see to do this is by sending invitations to the meeting, which I don't
want to do (all of my meetings are with persons outside my organization).  So
how can I (from calendar and/or contacts) schedule a meeting and have it
linked to a contact (to track activity) without sending out a meeting
invitation?

Thanks!
-Mike

In Outlook 2007 Beta 2, the Contacts box for linking items to contacts does not appear by default. You will need to turn it on -- Tools | Options | Contact Options | Show Contact Activity Information on All Forms.

If, like me, you think that this is the wrong choice for the default option and that some users will perceive this as a data loss, you might want to provide feedback to Microsoft using the Send a Smile tool from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A2E1F4E2-BC0F-4403-B09F

. This tool will transmit your comments and a screenshot back to Microsoft. For more information on this tool, see http://spaces.msn.com/turtleflock-ol2007/blog/cns!C1013F1F9A99E3D8!135.entry

Thanks for the quick response.  That took care of how I normally schedule
meetings (directly from the calendar).  Is there a way to create meeting
directly from the contact pane?  Same problem here; I see only an option to
send an invitation, and not to calendar a meeting outright.

No, there isn't such an option and it annoys me greatly, because previous versions had it. Another one worth sending a "send a frown" report on.

I'll send a frown immediately.  Thanks again for the quick and expert
response.  That's what make you an MVP!

This is very annoying.  Any idea if Microsoft is going to fix this?

Sue Mosher answered this question earlier in the thread.  To quote her answer:

In Outlook 2007 Beta 2, the Contacts box for linking items to contacts does
not appear by default. You will need to turn it on -- Tools | Options |
Contact Options | Show Contact Activity Information on All Forms.
