i want to change the template that comes up when i want to make an
appointment in the calendar.  "show time as", "label", start and end time
span, and "reminder" to be checked, so that i don't have to manually change
them every time.

Show Time as is hard coded - can't be changed.

After furious head scratching, tony asked:

you can set the default reminder on:  Tools | Options - right there in that
screen.
