i have outlook express but want outlook for the calendar. how do i get
outlook, and then do i have to reconfigure my computer for outlook as opposed
to express?

You can use Outlook for calendar and OE as your default mail client.

Travel to any Microsoft software retailer in your area and buy it or go
online to a software retailer and buy it.

You can use either or both if you wish. Using Outlook does not preclude
using Outlook Express. They're separate applications.

Yup, or any one of a number of other calendaring solutions for Windows that
are available. Some are even free.
