For some reason my reminders are not popping up any more. I'm not sure if I
changed some obscure setting or what. I've already tried checking
tools/options/advanced/reminder options. I thought it might have something
to do with my pop up blocker on IE but turning that off hasn't seemed to work
either.

Have you tried starting Outlook once with the /cleanreminders command line
switch:

are the items in your default folders? reminders only fire from the default
folders.
