Getting rid of duplicate events vs. Recurring events

So...I have tons of duplicated events in my calendar. Does anyone know how to
get rid of the duplicates in an effective way?
If I follow the suggestion on the help files (sort by category, subject, and
delete) I will end up deleting all my recurring events (which are many).
Please help.

You will not end up deleting recurring events.  Recurring events are single
events.  They appear in your calendar only once.  Try changing to a table
view like By Category and the Help suggests.  You'll see.
