In my Calendar I have a (1) next to my Calendar. What does this mean?

It means there is an unread item in the calendar.  Right-click and choose
Mark All as Read.

Or, in addition to what Brian has said, right click the calendar, select
advanced find and find the unread item to see what it may be.
