Can not import outlookbackup.pst in Outlook 2000 after upgrading to Windows
Vista.

did you install outlook 2000 in internet only mode or corporate mode?

you don't need to import the pst - just open it using file, open menu.

I tested this tonight - 2000 in Internet only mode won't work - it uses the
old windows address book (wab.dll) for it's address book. Corporate mode
works, but each time I restart it I get the start up screen. There may be
other issues I haven't discovered yet. If you are using Outlook because of
the calendar, try the calendar in Vista (and Mail) or upgrade to Outlook
2007.

I'm having the same problem, and I installed it for Internet. I've also
tried to open the backup .pst file, and nothing seems to happen.

Do you know of any way to make the Vista calender able to import the
calender info from my backup Outlook files? Frankly, the only reason I've
used Outlook as long as I have is because of the calender features...

Well, I switched from "Internet Only" to "Corporate only" after exporting my addresses to a comma separated value file. The wab.dll error went away, but there were no addresses to select when I created an email.

Then I went to Tools + Services and noticed that the only services set up were "Personal Folders". So I added "Outlook Address Book" and "Internet E-Mail" services.

Once I configured the Internet E-Mail service, and imported my addresses from the csv file into my contacts folder(the import might not be needed as I think I deleted my contacts at one point), all is well again and I am using Outlook 2000 on Windows Vista!

Okay, so its not perfect. When creating the first email of a session I get an error message saying that the "add-in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FXSEXT32.DLL could not be installed or loaded ..."

I click the "OK" to dismiss the error message, and Outlook works just fine until I shut it down and start up again.

And yes, I typo'd above and meant "Corporate or Workgroup" NOT "Corporate Only".

The point is ... with a little dorking around it is possible to run Outlook 2000 on Windows Vista.

See if deleting extend.dat helps.
