Can meeting requests only come from same GAL or Exchange Server

Someone from another company is sending a meeting request but the Accept
button is grayed out and is not available. Can meeting requests be sent to
users in another "network" or using another Exchange Server or does it only
work with users in the same Global Address List or the same Exchange Server?

Yes you can send meeting invites across domains, exchange servers, forests, and the internet. If you supply details (outlook version, exchange version, meeting item forwarded or direct send, external sender, etc.) someone can point you to a resource to correct this problem.

Sorry to respond sooner - I have been waiting on the other party to respond
to me about what exchange version they are running. I do know my institution
is running exchange 2003. The Outlook I am using is 2003 and the meeting
item was a direct send from an external sender. Thank you for any direction
you can give me.

It should work just fine, I am doing this all the time. Be aware that you
need Outlook 2003 minimum though.
