how do I pair down the size of calendar in outlook 2003

Outlook 2003 has gotten way too big.  How do I delete all the old stuff
without affecting the recent events?

Or, as an alternative to Milly's advice, display your calendar in a table
view and simply delete old, non-recurring events.
