When you open the appointment, it should ask if you want to open just that
occurrence or the series item.

I did open just that occurrence, but since I can still change the recurrence
for the whole series from a single occurrence, I wasn't sure which parameter
would apply. I gather from your answer that the person would have been
invited for just that one occurrence.
