Events disappear upon sync

I have a user that has his events that he enters into his calendar's ost file
disappear when he syncs to the Exchange Server 2003 or at least a few seconds
after he saves the event.  He can enter events directly into Exchange by not
using cached mode and they remain no problem and when he returns to cached
mode they will come down from the exchange server just fine.  However, if he
tries to enter new events in cached mode again, they disappear.  He has tried
deleting the ost file and allow Outlook to generate a new one but the same
result occurs.  Other items such as mail seems to sync with no problems.  His
computer is running XP Pro and Outlook 2003.  Any ideas?

We have the same problem since we have installed Office 2003 SP3!

Good point Daniel.  I forgot to mention that this startred occuring just
after he installed the Office 2003 SP3.

Diane,

Upon further testing, it doesn't actually happen upon sync with the Exchange
Server.  It occurs just 3-5 seconds after saving the event.

How are you confirming its not happing on sync? 5 seconds is about how long
it takes to begin to sync when using cached mode.

Yes we use blackberry  but we have the same on computers without blackberrys
installed and accounts that are not listed with the BB server

Diane,

I thought that it sync'd every 5 minutes.  If I understand what you are
saying, then after an event is saved (in cached mode) it will sync to the
Exchange Server after approximately 5 seconds?  If this is the case, then it
would seem to be occuring upon sync.  We are also syncing to a Sony Clie
about once every week and have been for a few years.  This started occuring
right after we ran the Office SP3.  Each time this happens, it creates a sync
error message that I have listed below.

Diane,

I have several computers on our network, all of which are running Outlook
2003 connecting to an Exchange Server 2003.  There have been only two users
who have updated there programs to Office SP3.  Immediately after doing so,
they can no longer enter a new event/appointment into their Outlook running
in "Cached Mode" and have it sync/push the new event up to the Exchange
Server.  It simply disappears after a few seconds when it tries to sync.  
When entering an event into Outlook while connected online or using Outlook
Web Access and not in “Cached Mode”, the event remains stored and will even
sync back to the laptop after you connect in “Cached Mode” again.  There
seems to be a permissions problem with the “Cached Mode” .ost file
authenticating with the Exchange Server.  Is there a workaround for this
problem?  A registry setting that can be changed instead of uninstalling
Office completely and reinstalling back to SP2?

Appointments disappear from Outlook 2003 SP3 calendar in day/week/
month view.
The appointments are still visible in
- OWA
- on a windows mobile 5/6 device synced via push mail
- in outlook 2003 SP3 cache mode disabled
- in outlook 2003 SP3 cache mode enabled and view by category (I can
search for the "missing" appointments and find them though)

In outlook 2003 SP3 cache mode enabled it is easy to find the missing
appointments: in the "view by category" the "start date" is empty
(i.e. "none") so if I sort the list by "start date" I see them
immediately...

We use Exchange 2003 (English version) , Windows XP SP2 (German and
English version) and Office 2003 SP3 (German and English version).

Uninstalling and then installing office 2003 without SP3 does not help
as SP3 seams to be still installed (info still shows eg. Outlook 2003
SP3)...

I have no idea how to resolve this...
Any help would be warmly welcome.

The first thing I did was to uninstall MS Office completely and then delete
the Microsoft Office folder/directory under Program Files.  I then
reinstalled from the installation CD and then ran the Office Update making
sure to uncheck the update for Office SP3 and also checked to not have it
remind me again for the SP3 update.  Once I did that, then the SP2 update
became available the next time I checked for updates.  I installed SP2 and
everyhting was back to normal.  I don't know what improvements SP3 is
supposed to contain but we will apparently never be able to benefit from
them.

Are these the steps that you took?

It makes me so mad that Microsoft won't do anything about this problem nor
do any of the MVP's know how to workaround the uninstall and reinstall
solution.  This has occured on every machine that has updated to SP3 running
in cached mode and connecting to an Exchange 2003 Server.  I don't think that
alot of people are aware that this is happening because they don't sit there
and wait the 15 seconds or so and watch to see if the appointment disappears
- (why would you if you didn't know this was happening?)

It almost seems illegal that we pay Microsoft for these updates through
software licensing and then when the update messes up our programs, Microsoft
makes us pay them to fix their mistakes.  Where is the justice in that?

Anyway, post your results.  It looks like it's going to be up to us users to
resolve this one.

I have finally gotten this issue resolved after 3 weeks of working
with MS support. (By the way, free since it's related to a Windows
update) Our issue was caused because the Everyone group is not
assigned the Create named properties in the information store
permission to the CN=Configuration,DC=Domain, DC=com,CN=Services,
CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Organization object in the Active Directory
directory service.

Follow steps in KB article 839531. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839531.
