I use Outlook at home just the way you describe. However,
you need Workgroup Post Office (WGPO).

Hi, I've set-up a wireless LAN at home to share Internet access, files and
printer. It's working great (Belkin cards).

But it's an ad hoc (peer-to-peer) network (no server) and I was wondering if
it's possible to send and receive e-mail to other family members (using
their networked PCs/laptops) without using Internet (POP3) e-mail? Is it
possible to set up an internal e-mail system over a peer-to-peer network?
