I need to be able to share Free/Busy info across multiple offices, and have
set up a simple external FTP site (Serv-U on an old PC) to do so. This was
previously working internally on an IIS 5.0 FTP server, but won't work on
the external... always get a "Write operation failed to URL" error when
publishing the VFB.

Have ruled out firewall problems. I can connect to the FTP site in IE using
the same connection string with no problems.

Any thoughts?

Mike, I'm having the same problem...but this is the first setup I'm
trying...I too am able to reach my ftp folder using IE, but get the same
error message when going through Outlook. I also checked the permissions on
the folder and made sure it was set up with the proper security rights. If
you get an answer on this, please forward it to me...I'll check your post
from time to time to see if you get answered.

Yeah, it seems like a fairly common problem.

A little more info from my side: I'm currently testing this on a couple of
installations of Outlook 2003, with all Office updates applied. I have tried
setting my FTP site to anonymous access with no password required, but even
this doesn't help.

For the Free/Busy options, I am using the format:
ftp://username:password@site/username.vfb
