In the seven day Calendar view in addition to the date I would like to see
the day of the week shown on the same line as the date. So what I would like
to see is eg. Tuesday December 21. Is this possible?

That is how it should be by default. Obviously an issue with your version.
Check you region settings in the control panel. Are they correct, i.e.
country, state, etc?

Set your long date format in Regional settings to mm, dddd, yyyy.
