chose the restore default settings and consequently lost all my emaill
addresses in my address book/contacts. can someone please help me in
recovering my address book? i tried to find the *.pst file. i found two but
they contained the same information when i opened them in outlook. thanks in
advance!

Detect and repair would never delete data files. Keep looking. The PST file
is still there.
Make sure you're searching for hidden files.
