Greetings — I use Outlook 2002 and XP Home Edition. I'd like to make some
distribution lists using names/email addresses from incoming emails, i.e.,
copying using "From" and not "To" or "Cc." First, is there a way to do this?
Second, I'd like the names in the distribution lists to appear only there
and not as contacts in my contacts list. Can this be done?
Example: Copy the name/address "mary@anyplace.com" from my inbox email list
to a distribution list called "Assist Dogs". I'd like "mary@anyplace.com" to
show up in the "Assist Dogs" list but not in my regular contact list or as a
contact in the contact list. Then I'd like to assign a category[s] to
"mary@anyplace.com" for further sorting purposes.
Can this be done at all? And too, am I making sense?

The first action cannot be done natively. You can find third party tools
that will do that.
You can store addresses in a DL that are not in your Contacts, but it is not
recommended. You most certainly could not assign categories to such
addresses.
Most of us do not use DL's at all because they are so unreliable and have no
features. Why not use Categories instead?
