Trying to use Activesync to sync HP iPAQ with PC; continously getting message

(Check Names error box)
Microsoft Outlook found more than one "Birnbaum, Paul".

But there is only one "Birnbaum, Paul" in the Contacts list, and no matter
how I respond to the prompts, the error message continues to repeat,
sometimes with other names.

The problem does not occur with the same iPAQ, using same version of
ActiveSync(3.7.1) on my computer at work, so I assume the problem is unique
to something on my computer at home.

State in complete detail what your problem is and why it is an Outlook

This also happens when you have one user that has a name that start
with the same 3 letters as someone else that has an alias with the sam
3 letters.

We have a JR Macdoodle email address and a JRM (different person) who'
alias is JRM.

I don't know how to force Outlook to always use the alias whe
resolving email addresses for internal users.
