I used to sort alphabetically by 'File As' in a category view when I wanted
to print just the Contacts in that category,  having closed off the details
for all other categories, but now when I hit 'File As' (or 'Full Name' or
whatever) it returns to all contacts with no category separation.  I use
Office XP and Windows XP.  How can I sort alphabetically just the names
within a particular category, having closed out all the -'s to +'s for the
other categories?

Thank you for your help,

Use the Detailed or Simple List view, show the columns you want to see
(field chooser), click the column (eg Last Name) you want to sort by, THEN
use the group by box to group by Category.  That should have alphabetical as
well as the grouping.

Hi Russ,
Thanks for the quick reply.

View/ArrangeBy/Current View/Customize Current View/Group By choose
Categories, choosing Sort and choosing Sort/File As   seems to have done it.
Was that what you were suggesting?

I never found the Group by Box option.  Would that be easier?

Thank you,
Dan

Depends on your version. Customizing a view is easier for Outlook 2002.
My method works better for Outlook 2003.
