I did a clean o/s install (XP Pro) last week and things were fine for a few
days but my kid popped onto my pc before i installed virusscan and we ended
up with virus/worm/trojan issues. i have used multiple scanners and feel
the pests are gone, however still having big problems with outlook.

2 different messages.
1. when i open a new email form, a message pops up saying "a program is
trying to access your email addresses stored in outlook. Do you want to
allow this?" I say "no". I do use Word as my email editor but always have
and have not seen this before.

2. Sometimes when I close outlook i get this message "The file Normal
already exists. Do you wnat to replace the existing file?" ( I also say
"no.")

I have also gotten this one:
"You cannot create a new Microsoft Outlook profile at this time." I saw
that after cleaning out a virus. Outlook wasn't even running at the time.

I tried doing a maintenance reinstall AND also did a detect and repair
restoring defaults. Neither resolved the issues.

Next idea?????

I am having similar problems with win 98 and outlook 98. I
have recently upgraded quicken 2005, IE6, OE6, zone alarm
and AVG. Any similarity?

Hmmm..i have 3 pcs in the house running win 98 and haven't had that problem
with them.

I'm running XP Pro, Office XP, and do have iE (though I use firefox more
often) and Quicken 2002 H&B. However all have been on this pc for nearly 2
years and on this motherboard (new) for two weeks, a week before the problem
surfaced.

I have eliminated Word as my editor and that has temporarily stopped the
message, but I have always used Word and wish to resume doing so, so I still
need the fix. I also disabled the automatic scripting and the prompts are
very annoying so resolving my issues would be nice.

Hopefully someone will come along soon with answers for both of us.

These prompts are from the Outlook Email Security Updates contained in all
current versions of Outlook and in all Service Packs after SP1 for Outlook
2000. These updates add additional actions to the list of those that are
blocked from accessing the Outlook Address Book. Antivirus and antispam
add-ins are a common cause and others may be affected as well (for example,
Adobe Acrobat's Outlook addin called PDFMaker is a very common one). As a
result, one of the add-ins or programs you are using that access your
Outlook Address Book needs to be updated. Many add-ins were updated
following the release of Outlook 2003 and should work. If not you'll need to
contact the vendor for a newer version.

Cool beans! I love people who know more than me!!!! The registry change
did resolve the issue. I hadn't realized it could be Adobe. I upgraded from
Acrobat 5 to 6 Pro and it did add an icon to Outlook. That was one thing
that was different.

Thanks so much. Now if Outlook would just stop crashing...sigh... it
crashed right after I changed the editor back to word.

If you recently installed an add-in that's the most likely culprit-try
turning it off to see if your program goes away. Another possibility is that
another program has automatiocally installed a Component Object Model (COM)
add-in. You r best option is to turn it off or remove it.
If you installed the add-in, you probably know that you can turn it off by
using the Add-in Manager in the Advanced Options dialog box. If a COM add-in
has been installed without your knowledge, you need to turn it off a
different way.
1. On the tools menu, click options
2. In the options dialog box, click the other tab and in the general area
click Adavanced Options
3. In the advanced options dialog box click COM add-ins
4. In the add-ins available list in the com add-ins dialog box clear the
check boxes for all add-ins
5. Click OK to close each open dialog box
