Word cannot find Contacts for insert address

Word 2000 insert address. When I click on the address icon the box for the
address book comes up, but no addresses populate it and nothng shows in the
select address book field. The program generates an error to send to
Microsoft. I have gone to their page and downloaded the current updates and
patches. I believe word does not know where to look for the address book (I
use Outlook's Contacts) but I don't know how to set up this path.

What version of Outlook (2000?, 2003?) are you using?
