In Outlook 2003 when I click on contacts, I then must highlight a
contact before I can locate the contact I'm looking for by typing the
first character(s) of the name.  In the previous version, as soon as I
opened the contact folder, the name of the first contact was
highlighted.  Is there any way to get 2003 to perform the same way?
Thanks!  Joe Badham

Stop using the Outlook Today overlay for your root Folder.

Russ, thanks for the response.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this.

I did change how outlook opens, so that it no longer opens to Outlook
Today and I notice that if I go into contacts before going to Outlook
Today I get the result I wanted.  However, if I got to Outlook Today
and then back to contacts, I have the same problem.

Did you have something else in mind by your suggestion?  I find
Outlook Today a helpful screen to have available, though I don't care
if it is the screen showing when Outlook opens.
