When filtering contacts, is there way to make Outlook tell me how many
*filtered* records are being displayed? The status bar at the bottom only
tells me that a filtered is applied & the total number of contacts in my
database . . . . I'd like to see something like "Displaying 300 of 1000
records".

Outlook doesn't have a direct way of doing that. A workaround is to use a
grouped view. Each group will show the number of items in that group. If all
the items in the filter are in the same group, it's easy to see the number.
