I created a distribution list. When I try to use this list and send a message
I receive an error " an unexpected error has occurred"

If I try to expand the DL i get "cannot perform the requested operation. The
command selected is not valid for this receipient. The operation failed.

My contacts were imported but nthe DL is newly created.

Any ideas on why this is not working.

How did you import these Contacts and have you checked them to see if they
have valid, resolved email addresses?
Does this happen for every DL you create, even just a simple one with 2
members?

Hello Russ, I imported usinmg Outllook import/export function. I had imported
from an Outlook 2002 pst file.

I found that if I gave this DL a different name it worked just fine, it only
does not work if I use the same name I had from the original DL, even after I
delete it.

That explains it. Importing PST files is not a good idea. DL's are only one
of the things that get trashed.

Hi Russ, the only remaining issue is that even though I deleted the DL, if I
try to send an email with the old DL name it is still there, how do I get rid
of this permanently so i can create a new list with that name?

Explain how you are addressing the email. What are you doing that invokes
the old DL?

I was simply typing in the old DL name, even though it does not exist in my
address book it still found a DL entry with that name.

Well no wonder.
Why don't you clear your it from your autocompletion cache?
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. If your autocomplete list contains only a single entry, use the
directions here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;289975

To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:
