When I am setting up a distribution list on a contact having a professional
designation, Outlook does not sort by first or last name, but by the
designation.  It seems no matter how I have the "File as" field completed.
What do I need to do to have it ignore the designation and sort on first or
last name only?  Thanks.

As I recall, this is a bug that was never fixed. What Outlook version?

Yup.  We have a tech rep that handles all that and it was an automatic load
via the server.

Great. I haven't seen this one since IMO mode. You sure you never had IMO
mode on this partition? I can't reproduce this behavior in my installation
of Outlook 2003.

I do not know what IMO Mode is.  For your additional information, my contact
info in the name field would be:  John Q. Doe, CPA.  It will default the
search to CPA even when I change the file as field to Doe, John Q.  Thanks.

IMO = Internet Mail Only. It was the last version of Outlook where I could
reproduce this behavior.
Now your story is changing.
I thought you were talking about DL's.
So what do you mean by "default the search?"

When I click on the "To" box for it to search for a matching name.

That's not a search. That's just the same sort order that you would see in a
DL.
I cannot reproduce this behavior in Outlook 2003, but am aware of no
solutions for the problem when it occurred in earlier versions.
