adding field values to selected contacts

I can highlight press control and specifically select several contacts.  Is
there a way to add a value to the fieilds of only the contacts I have
selected?

I was going to use this as a filter field to export only selected contacts
since I can't figure out how to export only the ones I've highlighted.
