What is the file name used to store the address book?
Where are messages stored both Input and Sent?

I want to move these files to another machine and use them
in Outlook while I do a clean install on this machine.
There is a Wizard over there that when I say Change
Address Book replies "To designate a Contacts folder as an
Outlook Address Book go to Properties for Contacts folder.
What does this mean?

There is no address book in Outlook. The file you need to back up is your
Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the mail, calendar, contacts
etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup:

Okay, thanks for this information, because this is
exactly what I am looking for.  However, the pages that
you listed did not help me in locating the files that i
need to back up.  I did not write the original message,
and i have a further challenge.  Allow me to explain. I
have a system where windows xp will not run. locks up and
reboots immediately. I want to reinstall win xp on it and
get the address book/mail, and then clean install.
windows xp is not working at all and i cannot "back up"
to win 98 unless I reformat.

so i went put that hard disk in my system and tried to
run outlook.  It only pulls up my listing and my mail,
etc.  I cannot access this other system email
accounts/contacts/mail.  I searched for the
files .pst .ost and .pab files - none found on the
system.  Is there anywhere else I should look? thanks in
advance..
