sum of a column/field of a group of contacts using $ amount?

In my Contacts, I have a field for dollar amounts- in this case financial
donors to my project.  Is there some way to generate a table or even another
field in Contacts where I can have the total of this dollar amount from a
filtered group of contact entries?

Copy and paste to Excel and let Excel do the math.
