I have always used Outlook Express before, so am new to Outlook. My address
book in Outlook Express was alphabetized by last names, but in Outlook the
contacts are alphabetized by first names, which I don't find very helpful.
Is there a way I can change it to alphabetize by last names

If you go into each contact, you can change the File As field to Last, First
Hope that helps.

Depends on your version which you did not mention.
98/2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode:
Tools menu > Services > Highlight the Outlook Address Book service > Click
Properties > Set sort order
98/2000 Internet Mail Only:
Tools menu > Address Book > View menu > Sort by
Outlook 2002/2003:
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there
