Re:  Microsoft Outlook/Contacts:  After a "computer lockup", I archived all
files, including "Contacts" in MS Outlook to a CD, according to instrucions,
and cleaned off all files from the hard drive.  Attempted to copy all
addresses from the D:\ drive to a new Outlook file.  Instructions in Help did
not yield results: no Contacts transfer to the new file.  Error message said
that I did not have access rights to the Outlook file on the D drive.  Can
anyone help me get all my Contacts (addresses and phone numbers) back again?

Copy the .pst file to your hard drive and remove the read only attribute.
Then, use File->Open->Outlook Data File to access your data - do NOT import
unless you don't mind losing data.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact.  Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

Just to add to what Milly said, archive was the wrong procedure. Archive is
not the same as backup. Archiving moves old information (not all
information) from designated folders, which by default does not include
Contacts. The right approach would have been to simply copy the .pst file
that you were using as the default information store in your mail profile.
If you no longer have that file, then you cannot recover your contacts or
recent mail or appointments, etc., only the old mail that you archived.
