In Outlook 2003 I sorted the contact list by lastname, firstname, via the
method talked about in this forum.  When I view the contacts, the sort order
is lastname, firstname.

However, when I select the "To:" button from within a new message, the
contact list is sorted by firstname, lastname.  I restarted the computer with
no change - it is sorted by firstname, lastname.  How do I get the view from
within this area to sort by lastname, firstname.  Thank you

You only configured your Contacts Folder. You also need to configure the
Outlook Address Book.
Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or
address books > Outlook Address Book > Change. > Set your sort order there

Russ, thank you for the response.  The method you mentioned below is the one
I used to sort the contacts.  Could there be a setting on the Exchange server
overriding the view on the client?  Thank you

Not for your Contacts Folder, but certainly for the GAL.
Did you restart Outlook after making the changes?

Yes, I restarted Outlook and also restarted the computer (with no luck).  I
don't know what else to do for this issue and I am willing to try any other
suggestions.

Thank you again

You're the only one I've seen for whom it doesn't work.
Check your steps. What exactly did you do? How did you set the sort order of
the Contacts Folder? What sort order did you select for the Outlook Address
Book?

Russ, I checked the steps and it worked fine - not sure what I missed the
first time, but thank you again.
