In outlook xp the suggest names list sheds nearly all names intermittently. I
have deleted the .NK2 file and then created a new email with all recipients
in the contact list and used tools -> check names to rebuild the list again.
This method works, but is so frustrating as to why it decides to do it.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so has it been resolved?
Thanks,
Andrew.

This usually is not a problem with the NK2 file itself, but with the
profile.
Have you tried creating a new profile?

Not yet, i would use that as a last resort - i have never created a new
profile and then re-imported the information from another pst file. Is this a
relatively safe and straightforward procedure?

Very simple procedure used all the time. There is nothing at all to import.
Just set the new profile to use the same Outlook Data File.

What do you mean by "sheds names" ? About how many entries do you have in
the autocomplete cache file?
Just remember to make a note of your e-mail settings incoming and outgoing
servers, etc. before creating a new profile. Make sure that your new
profile has a different name. You'll also want to find your existing NK2
file and rename it. Then after creating the new profile, copy your old NK2
file over your new (empty) one. The NK2 name is named as follows:
<PROFILENAME>.NK2
If you write me at sales at www.dcs-imaging.com I'll send you a document on
how to autopopulate your NK2 file.
