Why can't I connect my contacts and my addresses in email?

When I want to send an email, I click on "to" and it is empty. I have many
addresses listed in Contacts. I checked with help, and it said I should click
on the address book, and options and tried to select contacts, but there are
no choices in the box. I have followed all the trouble-shooting guides and
still have not been able to resolve the issue. To send an email, I have to
reduce my email, click on contacts, open the individual's address box, copy
the email address, go back to the email, and paste it into the recipient
list. I can't help but feeling there is something simple I am overlooking...
Any help would be appreciated.

You failed to post your Outlook version.
Apparently, you also failed to configure your Outlook Address Book.
