Unable to find my contacts in the address book

I am running Outlook 2003, and for some reason I had two sets of Contacts in
my address book. I was unable to delete one set of contacts, so I deleted the
.PAB file and then rebooted the computer. After that, both sets of contacts
were missing (in the address book) but the contacts are still there. My
problem is that when I go to the address book, it doesn't give me an option
to use my personal contacts as my first choice for addresses - only the
global lists, etc. I'd like to be able to use my address book and have it
default to my personal list as it used to, but just one set (not the two I
had). Thanks.

Outlook hasn't used a PAB for years. The Outlook Address Book replaced it.
Read up on how to configure the Outlook Address Book:

Russ,

Everything worked, right up until I got to the part of the instructions that
say "On the Outlook Address Book tab, click to select Show this folder as an
e-mail address book, type a descriptive name, and then click OK." For some
reason, the box that says "show this folder as an email address book" is
grayed out and doesn't allow me to select it. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

Reread the article.
It should tell you that you must first add the Outlook Address Book Service
to the profile. After you do, you will be able to enable the Contacts Folder
as a email address book.

I'm quite certain I added the Outlook Address Book Service, but I'll double
check again on Monday and let you know if I'm just an idiot. Thanks.
