I reloaded outlook 2003. Copied the datafile back into the directory. all
messages and contacts are intact.

but when I go to start a new message and click on the "to" button a window
appears with a message that "The address list could not be displayed. The
Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened....."

At the same time if I type in the first letter of the name, it shows all
names beginning with that letter in a drop down panel.

Please help..
Names and Addresses in Personal Address - 21 Mar 2005 11:41 GMT
go to control panel -> mail, choose your profile, then under outlook addres
book delete the address that outlook can not display. After that, you open
your outlook again, go to the properties of your contact, choose option
outlook address book and activate show this folder as an e-mail address book
