I tried importing my data and instead of importing the name, phone number and
e-mail all into the same contact, when I pressed finished, it imported all of
the data into individual contacts...so the all the phone numbers were their
own contacts, all the names were their own, etc.  So I had triple the
contacts that I was supposed to have.

Answered my own question...converting to a .csv file worked like a charm.
So, save the Excel document as .csv, then import from Outlook.
