Hard to know what you are doing wrong when you haven't even provided a clear
description of what you are doing. We don't even know your Outlook version.

Try looking at the contact folder with a different view, like 'Detailed
Address Cards'.
Inky - 28 Mar 2005 16:47 GMT
outlook version 2002 10.2627.2625
I put an new contact into the address book (use the icon on the tool bar to
open address book) save the new information. When I try to look it up later
it isn't there
HOWEVER - if I try to email that person the email will be recognized
When I open the address book - and try to find another list there isn't any
but contacts and only a few of the names I've entered show up on the contacts
list
I have no other address book - if you need any other information please let
me know
thanx

Aha. That's the problem.
The address book is simply a view of your Contacts Folder's email addresses.
It was never intended for entering or editing Contact data.
Use the Contacts Folder for that.

ok - so the Contact Folder has all the info - is there a better way to have
an address book than the contact list? Thanx again for your help

Not sure what you're asking. There is no other way to store Contact data
than in a Contacts Folder.

Hi - I guess I am looking for a better address book - why is the icon for
address book there if it isn't really an address book - is therea better way
to keep all address and contact information in one book or area or do I need
to transfer all the contact information to some other program?
thanx again

The Outlook Address Book will display every electronic address book in the
Contacts Folder.
What else did you need it to do?
There are also innumerable ways to sort and filter views of your Contacts
Folders.

address book icon and I add the information but obviously I am not really in
the address book since it shows NO ENTRIES - I appreciate your patience with
me - how do I get an address book into the contacts folder since I don't have
one - is outlooks the best to use? I know on my desktop there is an address
book but I haven't used it since I always thought the outlook was the one to
use

You most certainly do have a Contacts Folder. You can't open Outlook without
having a Contacts Folder.
Reread my posts. You enter your data in your Contacts Folder. It will then
appear in your address book view. When you open your address book, just
select the Contacts Folder you want to view from the "Select Names From"
dropdown. Do NOT select "Outlook Address Book" in that dialog. It will
always appear empty because it holds your Contacts Folders.
Read this article on how to make sure your Outlook Address Book is
configured correctly to display your Contacts Folders:
