I am new to Outlook.   I have transfered an old .wab file to contacts and
also to an address book.   I only want one list of addresses.    If I add a
new contact which one do I add it in and how do I keep them in sync.   I want
the addresses to be available in Word as well as in Outlook.   I also need to
have distribution lists - but can't seem to make them in Outlook as it does
not list the address book.   Microsoft's "help" is very confusing.

Thanks - Grace

You need to post your Outlook version.
In Outlook the Address Book and Contacts always remain in synch. They have
to. They are one in the same. There is no separate Address Book in Outlook.
The Address Book is simply a view of the electronic addresses that reside in
your Contacts Folders.
Distribution Lists also reside in your Contacts Folder, not the Address
Book.
Create them in Outlook using File > New > Distribution List...

Thanks for your help.   I have Outlook 2003 which is part of Office 2003
which I just got from Dell with a new computer.

I think I understand a little better - but I still can't access this address
book from Word - I just get a Personal Address Book which I never set up with
nothing in it.   I need to be able to access the main contacts list.    I
don't have and apparently can't get Microsoft Exchange.

Just make sure you have the Outlook Address Book Service installed and
configured correctly in your Outlook profile:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002

Once you do, your Contacts will be available in Word. You are quite right.
You want and need nothing to do with Exchange or a Personal Address Book.

Hi again - and thanks for your help - sorry I'm so dense about Outlook.   I
tried to follow the instructions but there is no folder list on the view
menu.   I did find one on the Go menu, but there was no Outlook Address Book
there even though one exists according to previous step  I clicked the
Outlook Address Book tab, and show this folder as an e-mail address book, but
it showed it as named Contacts - and it still doesn't work in Word.   ???
Thanks again - Grace

Hi once more - I have finally gotten it to work.   I changed my profile to
show windows messenger and suddenly it started working.   Why I don't know!
Anyway - thanks again.

The Folder List view is invoked from the Navigation Pane's bottom row of
icons.
