Ghost contact Outlook in Office XP

Whenever I type a name that was in a previous address
book in Outlook, it fills in the old e-mail address.
When looking at Properties, I get the following
message: "the name or distribution list has been deleted
and is longer a valid Address Book entry".  Evidently
this was a problem with earlier versions of Outlook for
which there are work arounds but I have not found a
solution for Office XP.  I would like to remove the ghost
contact from my address book.

Any suggestions?

I too am very frustrated by this same problem.  Found no
mention in knowledge base.  Today stumbled upon possible
workaround:  1) Add the old email address to Contacts and
save; 2) then delete that new saved contact from
Contacts.  It seems to have eliminated the autofill using
old address.  Let us know if someone finds a better
solution.
