Hi Russ:
I read your post to my quiry about my auto complete not retaining memory for
more than 24 hours. I went to the office help section and there was an
article about finding the NK2 file and renaming it because it might be
corrupt. However when I did a search of my computer no such file was found
even when I checked off show hidden files. I thought that mybe my Freedom
Firwall mioght be clearing the cache, but I am not sure. Would you have any
other suggestions?

Rarely has that solution been the correct one. Most of the time the problem
is with the profile, not the NK2 file. I'd still start by creating a new
profile, then making sure your new profile is enabled for autocompletion.

Actually in my case it turns out that the firewall has caused the problem
After shutting it off the auto complete retains its memory. The frewall is
clearing the cache everyday.

Well that's reportable.
Provide details, please.

The firewall is the Freedom by Zero Knowledge Systems. It comes as a service
from my ISP Bell. What other information would you like?

Steps to repro and the proof that the firewall is clearing the cache.

I am not really that computer savy. So I don't know what proof I can provide
other than it works when the firewall is off and does not retain the names
after a day when it is on. I would be happy to phone you. Or you can contact
me at 416.720.2800

Never been reported.
Those more familiar with NK2 files than I find it inexplicable and highly
unlikely.
Personally I've seen poorly designed firewalls disable all sorts of things.

Russ:One more thing I  downloaded the demo version of OwtLook Pro and hit the
load button. Nothing happend other than a message saying File not found, as I
mentioned before I searched for the *.nk2 file but none was found, view
hidden files is enabled

Hi there.  This is Randy, the developer of Owtlook.  It would appear that
your system is not creating the NK2 file.  As Russ advised, try creating a
new Profile.  When searching for the NK2 file, also make certain that you
can search for hidden and system files.  Start your search in the Docs and
Setting folder to save time.

If our program doesn't find the NK2 file, it probably doesn't exist.  Ensure
that the autocomplete function is turned on.  Also review this document:
http://www.dcs-imaging.com/autocompletetips.htm.

I've seen MS OL delete an NK2 file if the file becomes corrupt.  In fact, we
purposely corrupted one particular area to see what OL would do, it emptied
the file to ZERO BYTES but the file was still present, just empty.

I don't think a firewall would have anything to do with the NK2 file.
Firewalls' are engineered to stop things from the outside from getting in, I
can't think of any function within a firewall that would delete any file.

Your issue is most likely with a bad profile, or a bad installation of OL.
Have you run the repair function?
