I have over 6000+ contacts in Outlook 2003.  All the contacts have a specific
category that I need to remove from their records.   Is there a way to do
this without opening every single contact?

Thanks

Matt,

Open Contacts - Select all (Edit - Select All) then Select Categories under
the Edit Menu.  Remove the check for the category you want to remove.  This
should remove it from all of your contacts providing they are all selected.
After that is done is you want to remove the category completely go back
into the Master Category list and remove it.

Yes,  you can  go to the Master Category list under the Edit Menu.  Remove
the check for the category you no longer need to use or you can completely
remove the category from the list. This will affect all Contacts.

Actually, removing a category from the master categories list does not make any change at all to existing items. It merely removes it from the master list.

To remove a category from multiple items, select them, then right-click the selection and choose Categories. You can then deselect the category that you want to remove from those contacts.

Sue,

You are absolutely correct.  I definitely missed a step in my instructions
of removing the it from the Master list but would need to go back to all
pre-existing items to remove the category.

Thanks for catching that.
