Quite often I save the contacts in Outlook to CD.  Recently I reformatted my
harddrive and had been told to use new folders for groups of items I wanted
to categorize in Outlook instead of using just the main contacts folder.  At
present, my contacts main folder is empty but I have about 40 subfolders
under the contacts folder.

When I save to CD, I click the Windows folder in Drive C, Local Settings,
Application Data, Microsoft, Outlook, Mailbox.pst.  Previously this last
folder was Outlook.pst.  Please explain mailbox.pst vs. outlook.pst.

Mailbox.pst was the default name given to the .PST file in Outlook 97.  Since
Outlook 98 the default file name has been Outlook.pst.  Your mailbox.pst file
must be from an old OL97 installation.  It should still work, though.

Thank you for replying so quickly.  I have never even had Outlook 97 on my
computer, only Microsoft Office 2000.  Why is this doing this now?

I really don't know, but it shouldn't cause a problem -- a .PST file in
Outlook can be named anything you want it to be named.  Have you tried
opening the mailbox.pst file in Outlook using File | Open | Personal Folders
File to see what it contains?  (It will open in your Folder List, just like
your regular set of folders...)
