I want to be able to export a group of emails from the address book.  When I
highlite the group, then go to file, the import and export buttons are not
available.  What needs to happen to make them useful?
Thanks.

Try exporting the contacts that make up that address book from the Contacts
folder. I'm guessing that you're using OL2000 in Internet Mail Only mode
where you'd see the symptoms you mention
