Phone numbers in Portugal don't have regional codes. All numbers (from all
companies including mobiles) have 9 digits. If you dial from abroad you
simply add the contry code. The number format should be +351 123456789.
Outlook assumes the first digits to be regional codes and displays +351 (12)
3456789. That in itself would not be a problem if you could then change it.
The question is you can't!
It helps when office "thinks" we want something, and corrects it. It does
not help when it forces us to "think" differently of what we actually want to
think! And many times you really waist a lot of time trying to correct
something the sofware insists you want to do, even when you don't

Paulo,
I just add a new contact with your data. Outlook 2002 (XP), and when
City/Area code is empty, Outlook show displays +351 123456789, without any
round brackets.
