Why won't Outlook recognize my Distribution List?

I have created a new Distribution List, which is now in my Contacts.  When I
try to create an e-mail for the named Distribution List I get a message  that
Outlook doesn't recognize the Distribution List.

State the precise steps that produce that error message and the exact
content of the message.
State your Outlook version and how you created the DL.

I copied a list of addresses into File>New>Distribution List from the Outlook
(2003)toolbar.  The error message happens if I try to create a New Mail
Message from the Contact list.  If I create a new mail message from Outlook
and type in the name of the DL it is not looking to my Contacts to verify the
name.

Simply copying a list of email addresses into a DL usually will not create a
valid DL.
When you open this DL, what do you see?

When I open the DL within my contacts I see all the people I put in it, along
with their e-mail addresses and display names.

I've often seen DL's created in this fashion fail.
You might need to create the DL from existing Contacts.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond.  I figured the problem out.  The
Contact folder needed to be added to the e-mail accounts.  Even though my
Distribution List was there, in addition to all my contacts, the folder
hadn't been added as an e-mail address book.

Thanks again.

Aha. So you weren't using your default Contacts Folder.
